Pack carefully

Among our top tips from Supercruises, clever packing is one of the most crucial. Your first cruise holiday can require more planning than your usual holiday. Every cruise has its own dress code so make sure to read their advice before you depart. Some cruises may require ‘elegant attire’ which might mean a jacket for men and a dress for ladies while others will have a black tie dress code. In addition to your clothing, it’s worth bringing a small alarm clock and some ear plugs to help make your cabin more comfortable. For additional storage, consider bringing an over-the door organiser as these provide plenty of space for storing your shoes and other small items.

Use the onboard laundromat

While laundry service is available on most cruise ships, this is the most expensive option on board. Although you might not want to spend your time on the ship doing laundry, this is a far more affordable alternative and doesn’t take too long. The onboard laundromat costs just a few pounds per load and knowing that laundry is available on the ship can help stop you from overpacking.

Book onshore activities in advance

Make sure to book any onshore activities in advance to secure a spot and avoid any disappointments. Booking excursions direct from the operator is a great way to save money and ensure that you are paying a competitive rate. Activities can also be pre-booked in advance on the cruise’s website. For example, spa treatments, theatre shows and restaurant dinners are some of the most popular activities that cruise ship guests like to book in advance.

Tipping

Each cruise has its own tipping policies so it’s worth reading up on this before you depart. On average, try to set aside £10-12 ($12-15) per day for tipping. Tips are divided amongst staff and as cruise staff work long hours and make much of their money in tips, we recommend paying the suggested amount. To make tipping on the cruise easier, pack an envelope of small notes to use for tipping staff along the way for additional services like late night room service.

Don’t worry if you have forgotten anything

With any holiday, it’s likely that you may have forgotten important items in your mad rush to get prepared for your trip.  The wonderful thing about Cruise ships is that they have everything you could need on board. If you’re after another swimsuit or need some additional sunscreen to help top up your tan, these are all available to purchase on the ship.
